Last night I submitted my application to nuun for their Hood to Coast relay teams. Pressing the “send” button was simultaneously terrifying and exhilarating for me. If you are applying, too – or if you have ever applied for something you wanted SO. VERY. BADLY – then I’m sure you know exactly what I mean.
Do one thing a day that scares you. Yep. No doubt about it.
Putting my application together was HARD. I have never in my life made a video before, much less put one on YouTube for all the world to see. Talk about putting yourself out there. WHOA.
I want this so badly though, and when all was said and done I felt that the best way for nuun to really get to know me would be through a video. So I found myself going completely outside of my comfort zone and putting myself in front of a camera. Yikes.
I wanted my application to convey who I am, as a person and as a runner. I wanted them to watch it and know that they can count on me to be a fun, enthusiastic and dedicated participant. That they could rely on me to be a great nuunmate – to run hard and play hard.
I’ve spent so much time brainstorming about what to do. And I don’t just mean since they officially announced the contest for 2012 — I have literally been thinking about this and dreaming about this for almost an entire year. It is important to me. Really important.
Hood to Coast is the most incredible relay in the world. It is on the other side of the country from where I live. My chances of getting out there are pretty slim without an opportunity like this. And nuun … well I LOVE nuun. I really believe that if I hadn’t discovered it, I would not have improved my marathon PR by an hour over the course of the past year while being a nursing mom. I would most likely still be struggling with the hydration problems I grappled with during my first 6 attempts at the marathon. I’m not saying that nuun made me faster – but it did without a doubt help in a tremendous way. I went into every run and every race fully hydrated. And you can’t perform at your best if you aren’t hydrated, plain and simple.
Running Hood to Coast for nuun with a bunch of amazing women would honestly be a dream come true for me. So I’m chasing it.
So, without further adieu, here’s my video application! I hope that you guys like it!
If you have a chance and you think I would be a good pick for the team, please let nuun know – either on their Facebook page or with a Tweet. Thank you so much!
Are you applying for the nuun HTC team? What kinds have things have you done lately to chase your dreams? Do you try to do something that scares you every day?
